Common Causes of UV Flatbed Printer Printhead Not Ejecting Ink (Nozzle Blockage or Ink Drop Failure)
Ink ejection failure from the UV flatbed printer printhead is an issue that can occur during normal operation. There are generally 8 primary causes of this problem. Depending on the printer’s brand and internal design, there may be 6 to 10 possible reasons. However, understanding the following 8 causes can help resolve 99% of printhead ink ejection issues.
1. Negative Pressure Out of Working Range
Adjust the negative pressure settings of the UV flatbed printer to bring them back within the normal operating range. (Since each manufacturer may define a different ideal range, it is advisable to record your equipment’s baseline values for future reference.) The adjustment can be done manually or automatically through the printer software.
2. Ink Supply Issues
Check whether the UV ink has expired, coagulated, or degraded in quality. These issues can prevent ink from reaching the printhead. If any of these conditions are found, simply replace the ink with a new, high-quality batch.
3. Ink Path or Printhead Blockage
If the ink path or printhead is severely clogged, use a specialized cleaning solution to flush the system. You can judge whether the blockage has been cleared by observing continuous bead-like ink lines from the printhead. It is recommended to replace the ink tubes approximately every six months.
4. Missing Printhead Temperature Signal
Check whether the printhead’s heating mechanism is functioning correctly. If the printer does not come with a built-in heater, you can add external heating components such as heat pads or fans to keep the printhead operating within the optimal temperature range.
5. Missing Printhead Voltage Signal
If the printhead is damaged due to electrical issues, it must be replaced. If the printhead voltage board is faulty, contact the original UV printer manufacturer to request a replacement voltage control board.
6. Communication Failure or Loose Network Cable
Inspect the flat cables and connector interfaces of the printhead to ensure they are securely connected and undamaged. Replace any loose or broken cables immediately.
7. Damaged Printhead
If the printhead is physically damaged, it must be replaced with a new one. Always ensure the equipment is grounded, powered independently, and equipped with a voltage stabilizer to prevent such damage in the future.
8. Printhead Board (Control Board) Failure
A failure in the printhead board can result in the printhead not ejecting ink. In this case, contact the printer manufacturer for technical support. Printhead boards are typically covered under warranty.
