What are the problems with the direct printing of gold and silver colors?
Users often ask how to print gold and silver colors, and whether UV printing can print these two colors. In fact, it is possible, but there are two main problems that cannot be applied.
First, the price is too high, and the quantity is small. The price of importing these two UV inks is generally more than USD300/liter, which is not cost-effective.
Second, the UV ink particles, after adding silver powder and gold powder, are very large, which can easily clog the head and cause scrap.
So, what are the current ways to achieve gold and silver color printing?
Hot stamping
Hot stamping is to heat and transfer metal to paper. It is a kind of post-printing processing, so it takes one more day of processing time than normal printing. The cost of hot stamping depends on the area of hot stamping. The larger the area, the more expensive it is. Hot stamping is the most shining among many hot stampings. In addition to gold, silver, blue, red, green, purple, black, platinum, etc., they can also be heated and transferred to paper.
Printing gold color
Gold can be printed with special gold ink. Special colors are colors outside the four colors of CMYK, so when printing, an additional printing plate and printing fees are required for gold. Since printing metallic colors is a special color among special colors, the printing fee is usually 2-3 times more expensive than ordinary CMYK.
Fake gold color
Gold and silver cannot be printed with CMYK four colors, but in order to save costs, they can also be printed to look like gold. As long as the printing is khaki, it can have a feeling close to gold. But it is not recommended, because fake gold (khaki) will have a lot of color differences as long as the difference is a few % value, and four-color printing is mostly combined printing, and the color will have a 5~10% color difference.
